Especially for those of you working in networks or semiconductor IC packages, knowing a material’s Dk property and how it impacts PCB’s performance is a must.
Dk measures a material’s ability to concentrate electricity and, consequently, it affects the signal transmission’s speed. The lower the Dk, the faster the signal transmission.
That’s why Low Dk CCL, thanks to its high-speed quality, is a preferred substrate material for high-frequency, high speed applications.
But High Dk CCL is also a material considered for enabling substrates’ fine patterning and miniaturization, which is key for smaller but fine patterned applications including 5G mmWave AiP.
