Doosan Corporation Electro-Materials, a global leader of electronic materials and a Doosan Corporation’s business group, recently developed PTFE Copper Clad Laminate (CCL) which is used as a mother board of automotive radar. Doosan’s PTFE CCL enables high-speed communications (77GHz) required for automotive radar. Doosan Corporation Electro-Materials is now teaming up product development with European OEM and global Tier-1 companies.

CCL is a key material of printed circuit board, or PCB, which is an essential part of almost every electric and electronic device. In general, conventional CCL is made with copper, glass fibers, epoxy resin, and polyimide. Doosan Corporation Electro-Materials recently succeeded in the development of a CCL with PTFE resin replacing existing epoxy-resin. Epoxy resin is a dielectric layer of copper clad laminates that prevent electrical leakage in PCB. Doosan’s PTFE laminates are considered outstadning in terms of reliability and chemical resistance in the market.

Doosan Corporation Electro-Materials said it will provide solutions for customers to overcome difficulty handling the material during processing multi-layer PCB. With low transmission loss characteristics and low DK, PTFE is a suitable material for ultra-high frequency CCL, and that’s why PTFE laminates are anticipated as a base material for next-generation high-speed communications such as mmWave and 6G. Moreover, it can vary application to mobile antenna cable, automotive radar, power amplifier and aerospace & satellite components.

Doosan Corporation Electro-Materials is solidifying its top-tier position in the global CCL market, based on the corporate’s unique CCL manufacturing process and resin mixing technology, important factors to determine quality of PCB. Doosan Corporation Electro-Materials has been No.1 market player since 2016, accounting for about 20% of market share in the so-called ‘high-end’ material sector for advanced electronic devices such as smartphone, 5G, and semiconductor. Doosan Corporation Electro-Materials reached a revenue of 910 billion won last year, which increased 10% on-year. The company has set its target to more than 2 trillion won by 2025. Doosan Corporation Electro-Materials said it will increase the sales of higher-value products in the CCL category and expand new business to achieve the goal.
