    2. Korea’s Hydrogen Economy Business and Goals


     


    -Current Korean Hydrogen Economy Business


     


    . Hydrogen vehicles: The world’s first hydrogen car has been successfully mass produced with 99% of core components produced domestically (600km/ 1 charge)


    . Fuel cells: Korean petrochemical facilities have sufficient production capacity of by-product hydrogen needed for hydrogen vehicles


    . Natural Gas: Korea has a natural gas supply network that can economically supply hydrogen to the entire country


     


    -Goals of Korean Hydrogen Business


     


    The impact of hydrogen on the Korean economy is forecast to grow from approximately USD 13 billion in 2022 to approximately USD 20 billion in 2030. By 2050, it is estimated that hydrogen energy will make up 33% of total energy consumption and 23% of energy production to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 200 million tons. According to this estimation, hydrogen is set to replace the largest energy source in 2020, petroleum, to become the sole largest energy source in Korea by 2050.

    . Hydrogen molecules pass through the negative electrode (anode) and are split into hydrogen protons and hydrogen electrons.


     


    . The hydrogen protons then pass through a catalyst and are combined with oxygen in the positive electrode (cathode) to produce water and generate power.
