    • Doosan Corporation Electro-Materials Set to Enter US Market by Setting up Subsidiary Next Month

  • Doosan Corporation Electro-Materials (DSE) is preparing to enter Silicon Valley, the heart of the world’s IT industry, next month to target global IT companies and discover new business opportunities, by setting up a subsidiary in the USA.

Word has it in the industry that at its recent board of directors meeting DSE decided to set up the subsidiary in San Jose (Silicon Valley) by the end of this month. Dr. Minsoo Lee has been appointed as the president of the US subsidiary.

Although DSE has sales offices in China, Taiwan, Japan, and Singapore and production bases in Korea and China, this represents its first attempt to enter the United States.

DSE is Korea’s largest manufacturer of copper clad laminate (CCL), the core material of printed circuit boards (PCB), which constitute the neural networks of electronic products like smart phones, smart pads and TVs. It is essential for producing slimmer smartphones and maximizing the performance of semiconductor components.

DSE decided to enter the USA as they believed a fast reaction was essential in the USA, where large IT companies such as Intel, Apple, and Amazon are located, in order to develop new materials with high added value and preempt the future market.

Given this background, Dr. Minsoo Lee, head of research and development at DSE, has been appointed as the head of the US subsidiary while personnel with a marketing background have been assigned to the subsidiary.

“The US subsidiary will be responsible for ensuring a fast response to customers and discovering new business opportunities,” claimed executives from DSE.

DSE is stepping up its efforts to target overseas markets to become the world #1 producer of high-end CCL by 2017. On 4 July, DSE launched an overseas production base in Changshu, China for the first time in 38 years.
Major PCB companies like Samsung Electro-Mechanics, Tripod, and Unimicron are densely located around Changshu. The CCL produced by DSE is supplied for Apple’s new iPads, and new transactions are expected following the recent approval of a U.S. semiconductor company.

The stock industry has also forecast that DSE’s sales performance will improve significantly with the increase in sales of high added-value products.
